Reiki Healing - an Energy Healing Technique

Reclaim your health and vitality with Reiki energy healing

The Chakra Locations in Reiki Healing Reiki is a practice of healing using some specialized historic elements
The Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) system of natural healing, rather like some other types of healing, uses universal life force energy that is all around us. This energy is channelled through the practitioner's hands into the patient, with the patients consent and willingness to participate.

I've been interested in this form of healing since 2002 when I started using the techniques shown to me by a Reiki Master, on myself. I have since been through all the training and now practice on other people and animals. Some people call that mastership or mastery, but even though I have been gifted the title Reiki Master, I sometimes feel that label is only as good as your last healing session, or the last trainee you brought into the teachings.

There are more than enough people doing Reiki courses (some fantastic, many dire; choose carefully), and I'm sure the world does not need another one, so I choose to focus my attention on helping people to experience the wonders that are the Reiki treatment, and if you would like to receive a Reiki treatment, then please use the contact details below to get in touch.

Forms of energy healing have been used for thousands of years of recorded history, but the Reiki flavour of energy healing was rediscovered by Dr. Usui in the 19th century. Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words rei and ki meaning 'universal life energy' and it is this energy that we believe we are working with when we ask to be a channel, or conduit, for the healing energies.

Reiki is administered by the laying on of hands, and is a form of light touch therapy in which we allow an energy flow to exchange between us. Because all living things, including humans, interact with this life force energy at a mental, spiritual and biological level, when we feel well, we bounce around with energy, health and happiness, when we feel low, we feel exhausted, sick and tired. So our interaction with this energy determines how we feel, and the laying on of hands is an attempt to influence the body of another person to acquire, and use for the common good, an abundance of this energy that is all around us.

What can Reiki healing do for me?
Reiki energy can bring the body to a state of deep relaxation, which is both soothing and calming to the mind, and helps the body by reducing stress, anxiety and any tendency toward depression, and in this way promotes healing. A Reiki healing is designed to treat and have an effect on, the body, the mind, our emotions and our spiritual welfare.

I believe, and this is often confirmed by patients subsequently, that Reiki (as are other forms of energy healing) is very effective in helping a huge variety of illnesses and diseases, and in every case there are tangible beneficial effects. Whether these can be felt physically in the body, seen as evidence on the body, or experienced internally at an emotional level, the energetic increase and effects felt following a Reiki treatment can have a profound influence on a person's recovery path.

One of the better advantages I have experienced is that when combined, or used in conjunction with, orthodox medical treatments or therapeutic techniques, Reiki seems to accelerate the healing response, relieve some of the side effects of medication and promotes rapid recovery.

Are there any contraindications to having Reiki?
None that I am aware of, no [Some like to say broken bones, diabetics, anyone under anaesthetic or undiagnosed pain, but this is baloney]. Reiki is a natural and safe form of treatment that anyone can receive. It has no known side-effects, or ill-effects, except that every once in a while, someone may be moved to tears as their body releases emotional trauma or physical tension. This is usually temporary and over before the treatment is concluded.

But that's not to say that someone cannot have some kind of abreaction in which they may feel worse before they feel better. Sometimes illness can build up in layers over extended periods of time, a bit like the layers of an onion, and the body can peel away those layers one at a time, re-experiencing in a milder form, the original sensations and conditions, in a reverse of the timeline that created the problem in the first place. This isn't really a fault of the treatment, or anything wrong, it's just a way for the body to reach holistic harmony and balance. At least this way you know the treatment is thorough and doing you good.

Does Reiki help my other treatments?
I happen to believe it does, but no one can say that for sure, you must go by your own experience. If you have a physical treatment with a therapist, such as massage, reflexology, spinal touch, or even osteopathy, or bowen, then the body relaxation afforded by a follow up Reiki treatment can allow all the benefits of that other therapy to settle in and do their job better. I know my experience is coming from the complementary side of the equation, but I also believe this to be true if you have had physiotherapy at the hospital, or a revealing interview with your consultant.

How many terminally ill people turn to reiki or energy healing?
A mightily good number it would seem. When you start to look at life from your own greatness rather than your own fears, then you realize you have nothing to lose by trying. This is why I feel that setting goals with our energy work, rather than just letting things happen by themselves, gives us momentum and a sense of accomplishment.

There's a saying which is so true, if you aim at nothing, you hit nothing. This is why goal setting is so important when doing energy work. I make a point of asking if I should pay special attention to any particular areas of the body, or should I dwell over a specific point for longer? Just be guided by the patient or by your own intuition, they will likely give you the same answer.

I think that rather than tell someone they are terminally ill, I think doctors and consultants should say, I have reached a terminus in my ability to help you further. Reiki does not promise to heal you, but it does promise to make you feel the best you can feel under the circumstances, to be as good as you can be the rest of the time, and to do the best you can do, all the time.

Do I have to believe in Reiki for it to work?
No you don't! Reiki is not a religion, nor a belief system that requires ritualistic chanting or anything else. Those that try to add in all those things, do so for their own reasons. Maybe they don't believe it can be that simple, or they're afraid people won't think highly of them as healers, if they don't add a flavour of mystery and ritual; I don't know. People of all faiths, or no faith, use Reiki as a healing tool, and that's fine.

The truth is this; all you need is the ability to ask with humility, "Yes please, I'll have some of that, and I'd like it right ... here".

Everybody accesses the same energy, you don't have to believe in it, you're doing it anyway, right now, all the time. The choice comes from interacting with it in a conscious way, deciding to give direction to your own inate healing ability, when it is perhaps being side tracked, or diverted by an illness, a less than healthy immune system, or some other reason why you're feeling low right now.

The Miracle of Self Healing Reiki, as an energy healing technique, and Reiki as a self healing tool, is so easy to master, I made a CD several years ago that allows you to follow along with me in creating a self-help healing meditation to assist you in maintaining your own health and vitality. It is called The Miracle of Self Healing and is available on CD or as MP3. This life changing CD has been sent to sufferers in just about every country in the world since it's launch; a little product and fact that I am very proud of.

If you find that you are just too far away to come to The Haven Healing Centre for a Reiki treatment, or cannot find someone nearby who you connect with to give you a Reiki treatment, then this CD will guide you toward doing it yourself and making the difference yourself.

What are the Reiki principles?
Well, it's likely that Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, intended them to become an ethical framework which Masters would pass on to their students. The guidance of a Master should emphasise things like compassion, generosity and empathy. Ethics in healing is very important, and all forms of healing have a Code of Practice, or a list of guiding principles. These ideas form the guiding principles of a Reiki healer and centre around doing no harm, releasing anger, doing good, embracing gratitude and harmony, and valuing life.

Reiki healing is gentle, safe, enduring and natural. When you come wear loose fitting clothes so you can be comfortable, and as relaxed as possible. If you have any questions, it's best to ask them when you make the appointment, but if you're anything like me, things pop into your head after you put the phone down, and so you can being up any points or wonders you need answering before we start. I have soft background music to play for you, but if you have your own particular favourite, please bring that (I'm not sure the Stones or Iron Maiden will work too well, but who am I to judge?) I hope you have found this information useful and feel encouraged to give Reiki healing therapy a try. Please contact me if you want to find out about appointments and prices. I look forward to welcoming you soon. Phil.
